Last evening saw a large crowd gathered at Linnaea to hear readings from a newly published compilation of prose and poetry. Six local Cortesian authors read selections from "Escape: An Anthology from North Vancouver Island and The Discovery Islands," much to the pleasure and laughter of those in attendance.
A big thank you to all who made the delightful event such a success: Michael Redican, Jocelyn Reekie, and Gwen Kushner from Peregrin Publishing; our Cortes authors Dayna Davis, Erika Grundmann, Linda LaClaire, Stephen Moyse, Monica Nawrocki, and Francis Woodcock, who shared their words and thoughts and voices with us; and everyone who came out on the rainy/snowy evening to share in the warmth of thought-provoking words read aloud in good company. Thanks also to everyone who brought delicious refreshments to share, to Monica and Erika who organized much of the publicity and other important venue/event details, and to Monica for being such a great (and funny!) MC.
A special thank you to each of the local authors, who generously agreed to donate the money raised from sales of the books for the evening to the Cortes Radio. In total, $136 was raised, and with such a giving spirit of community involvement.
If you missed the event, didn't have cash on you, or would like more copies of "Escape," Marnie's Bookstore has copies, perfect for holiday gifts… or just because you like a good read!
