Old SchoolHouse Art Gallery
This is a call for proposals for solo and group shows for the 2013 Old SchoolHouse Art Gallery Season. Proposals are to be submitted no later that 2 pm on Monday, December 10, 2012. Proposals can be mailed to Box 203, Whaletown, V0P 1Z0 or emailed to schoolhouseartgallerygmail.com.
A show should contain the following elements;
...One of a kind pieces
...A distinct expression of the artist's work
...A unique series of pieces
...Presented in an environment that enhances its art qualities
...Sufficient pieces to fill the Gallery - on average 30 pieces
Shows run for 2 weeks.
TO APPLY FOR A SOLO SHOW:
Provide, in writing, the following information:
Title of the show
Premise of the show; its theme or guiding concept
Description of work
A minimum of 5 example of your work in photographs, slides or CD
(If the Gallery is unfamiliar with your work, 10 examples would be required)
Special requirements, if any
The solo artist automatically becomes the Coordinator of the show
TO APPLY FOR A GROUP SHOW;
Provide the same details as above, plus a list of participants and the name of the coordinator for the show.
The main show season is from June to September and accommodates 6 to 8 shows.
The season consists of a mix of Solo shows, Group shows, and Members shows.
Each show will run for the duration of two weekends, from Friday to Sunday. The hours are Fridays 6 to 9 pm; Saturdays and Sundays 2 to 6 pm
The gallery commission for works sold is 20%
The Selection Committee sets the season calendar by reviewing proposals submitted by artists, keeping in mind the selection guidelines.
Active contributing Art Gallery members
On island artists; then descendants
Selection Committee may from time to time invite an artist to submit a proposal
A variety of media is encouraged so the season attracts new audiences
The whole season is viewed as a continuity
Minimum of one Members show per season
No show is assumed to be annual
Solo artists may not show more than every two years
Each show mush have sufficient work to hold the gallery
Each show must meet with the Selection Committee's standard of artistic merit
