Attached is a copy of the official order that has been submitted today. A media release will be sent out this afternoon.
The restriction covers all areas that do not have a bylaw that administers open fire use.
Category 2 Open Fire definition:
Category 2 open fire" means an open fire, other than a campfire, that
(a) burns material in one pile not exceeding 2 m in height and 3 m in width,
(b) burns material concurrently in 2 piles each not exceeding 2 m in height and 3 m in width, or
(c) burns stubble or grass over an area that does not exceed 0.2 ha;
Campfires cannot be larger than 0.5 metres by 0.5 metres – roughly a foot-and-a-half by a foot-and-a-half.
People must maintain a fireguard, which means scraping down the dirt and removing flammable debris – twigs, leaves and needles – from the campfire area. We recommended the guard be at least one-metre in diameter.
You must also have a hand tool, such as shovel, or at least eight litres of water nearby to properly extinguish a fire.
