The Old Schoolhouse Gallery hosted the photographic exhibit by John Preston, Friday, August 10th, 2012, to a packed house of friends, clients, and viewers.
John’s vision is strong and persuasive. He entices the onlooker to look, then look again, with his variations within each series. His water -underwater group of his two sons, as an example, demonstrate this playful give and take between the artist and the viewer.
With his unique background, John asks us to question our perception of reality, and with photography being a “representation” of reality, John plays with the phantom, the illusion, and the fact. His long hanging of pieces of golden water with land in the distance, as well as his series of misty islands, are examples of this idea.
His board on the students of Linnaea is a sweet tribute to the dream that was once on this Island.
A must see show. Continues this weekend and next. Fridays 6-9. Saturday and Sunday, 2 - 6
