House Fire
In the early hours of Friday morning, we awoke, fortunately in a separate building, to find our new house engulfed in flames. Despite the prompt intervention of the Cortes Volunteer Fire Service, the fire had too strong a hold and eventually burned to the ground. Our grateful thanks to Bruce Brown and his fire team for containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to the nearby forest through many long worrying hours that night. Such dedication and discipline from volunteers pulled from their sleep at short notice was truly humbling. We owe you an immense depth of gratitude. Our love and deepest thanks to our friends and neighbours who turned out that night to hug and steady us through the appalling event. Without you, we would have despaired.

Fire Cleanup
Following our house lost by fire, we have been inundated with offers of help, food, tools and labour from friends and neighbours and the community at large. 40+ people arrived on Sunday with a fleet of pickups and removed all of the debris from the site, trundling a relay of wheelbarrows of ash to a dug pit, running non-stop to the Recycling Centre with all of the twisted metal roofing, whilst another army in the kitchen kept us all in food and drink. A horrible job, which was carried out with enormous energy and passion which managed to keep us both positive and buoyant with their friendship and laughter. This could not be a better example of a great community and we feel blessed to be a part of it. Thank you one and all . We have been immeasurably moved.
