Public information session about plans for Cortes Island Library Branch

NANAIMO, May 2, 2012 – The Cortes Island branch of Vancouver Island Regional Library was closed on the afternoon of Friday, April 27, 2012 for safety reasons pending an inspection of the area of the building specifically used as a library.

The building inspection will take place this weekend. In the meantime, the majority of library materials are being removed from the library today, pending the inspection. All materials will be stored on-site on Cortes Island.

“All members of the public are invited to attend an information session to receive an update from representatives of Vancouver Island Regional Library about our plans for the library on Cortes Island,” said Rosemary Bonanno, Executive Director of Vancouver Island Regional Library. The date, time and location of the public information session will be announced shortly.

“While we wait for the building inspection report, we continue to review options in the community for temporary quarters and continue to work with the South Cortes Community Association for a permanent location for a library on Cortes Island,” said Bonanno.

Vancouver Island Regional Library is committed to providing an environment for library services that is appealing, comfortable, inviting and safe.
