We are happy to announce that Friends of Cortes will be continuing to do parks management for our Regional District parks in 2012.

We recently won the bid to continue management of Kw’as, Carrington Bay and the Beach Access Trails. We are also very pleased to now be managing Hanks Beach conservation park trails as well.

Thanks to all who sent in glowing letters of support. We are thrilled to steward these beautiful parks and keep the work in local hands. We look forward to offering you an excellent trail hiking experience. Ryan Harvey will continue in the role of lead Park Maintenance Guy, and can be contacted at 935 6993.

The next bit of good news is that FOCI recently received a grant from the Gaming Authority for 2012. We applied for extra funding to support community programs under our umbrella. The board of directors has allocated this funding as follows:

1,000 Literacy Now
2,000 Marine Stewardship
1,000 Youth Initiative
5,000 Community Fundraising
2,000 FOCI Resource Library outreach employment

We look forward to greeting you in the resource library this season. We are back to our regular hours of operation on Fridays from 1-3 pm during market time. Our little building is located next to Manson’s Hall beside the radio station.

Happy Spring!
