General News · 20th February 2012
I will be meeting with Island Timberlands this Wednesday the 22nd of February at their downtown Nanaimo offices to discuss their 2012 operational harvest plans. (See attached meeting request letter to IT.) The following day, Thursday the 23rd, I invite you to come hear a verbal report of that meeting at the Gorge Hall, 7pm. Remember, I am taking on this advocacy role after receiving letters from 80 plus Cortes Islanders asking me to represent your interests and concerns to senior management.
I have asked Sabina Leader-Mense and David Shipway to join me for this meeting with Island Timberlands for two reasons. First, they have both been at previous meetings with senior management, and secondly, they know the land better than anyone else actively involved and have detailed maps to contribute. They will therefore be able to contribute to the operational discussion at a very valuable level.
We will also be joined by two authors of the petition, Tzeporah Berman and Carrie Saxifrage, both Cortes property owners and former (future?) residents. Although our constituencies and messaging are different there is enough overlap to warrant combining our time in this joint meeting. They will report out on the results of our meeting with IT to the petition signatories and I will do the same to my Cortes constituents the following day.
All input always welcome.
