During the last four months of meetings to discuss Draft 2 of the OCP Review, some residents have demanded that our current bylaws be enforced. Others want more restrictions. Still others state we do not want to be regulated. Why bother when current regulations are not enforced anyway? We have heard repeatedly that lacking enforcement the entire Review exercise is futile. Establishing a Land Trust for Cortes has been suggested.
Saltspring Island faced the following situation this year. The Local Trust considered Bylaw 464 (Enforcement of Bylaw Notices within the SaltSpring Island Local Trust Area). The Bylaw sets penalties for infractions of the (LUB) Land Use Bylaw and the Soil Removal Bylaw.
Section 2.5.2 of the LUB states:
- EACH DAY DURING WHICH AN OFFENCE AGAINST THIS BYLAW IS CONTINUED IS DEEMED TO CONSTITUTE A NEW AND SEPARATE OFFENCE.
