In recent storms some areas on the island suffered the loss of phone service before we were able to mobilize and provide back-up power. This as frustrating to us as it is to you. A few years ago TELUS spent well over $300,000.00 to provide additional battery back-up to all 6 remote switches on the island in an attempt to mitigate the numerous storm related power outages that occur every year on Cortes. I have instructed my electrician to investigate why some sites are not getting the extended battery life they were engineered to provide and to find a solution. We have already conducted some tests and are analyzing the results which to date have not provided a concrete cause. I want to ensure everyone that we will find out why this is occuring and I will provide an update as soon as we determine what has happened and also when we make the repairs. Again I apologize for the inconvenience.
