In response to Nancy's question as to the missing newt signes...
The obstacle is manpower. The last FOCI volunteer ran out of steam. Its a volunteer thing that only happens if someone takes the time to do it. Highways doesn't allow them to be left up all year round. It means putting them up and taking them down twice a year.
The current method is to dig them in with a substantial hole and they are quite heavy so it is not a simple task.
FOCI does still have some signs. If you are willing to volunteer to put them up and take them down again, please contact Sarah Downey, FOCI's Executive Director at friendsofcortesgmail.com or 250-935-0087.
