The Cortes Community Radio Society is pleased to officially announce that the CRTC has approved our application for a broadcasting licence. We wish to thank all those who worked so hard to get the station to this point. Many volunteer hours over 18 months have gone into reaching this milestone, especially by Amber Sprungman who wrote much of the non-technical portion of the application and coordinated the process of compiling it. Sean Cowell has also done a pile of work on this in addition to keeping our studio running.
We would also like to acknowledge the volunteer time of all of the station DJs who bring you the diverse sounds, viewpoints and news of Cortes Island. Thanks to everyone who wrote letters of support for our application. To view the announcement, go to
http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2011/2011-652.htmIn many ways, the announcement begins another phase in the life of the station. This licence comes with a list of conditions which will require equipment upgrades and changes to some of our administrative processes. The board has already begun to make some of these changes in anticipation of this approval. It also means we’ll need to continue to raise funds for both capital items and to cover the costs associated with training and increased administrative requirements. We thank you for your past support and hope your generosity will continue as we make this transition.
