The following summary is for clarification on who Wildstands & Island Stance are.

1. Wildstands

formed from the community following the public meeting with Island Timberlands ,July 3, 2008, and the subsequent community forums held to continue the discussions regarding IT forest lands on Cortes, became known as Wildstands. As community interest grew, Wildstands became an alliance of community initiatives, all individually seeking alternatives to industrial clear-cut logging of these lands. Wildstands is best described as the forest formed by the individual community initiatives, the trees; or, as the hub of a wheel with the initiatives being the spokes. The name Wildstands referred to stands of wild trees.

2. Island Stance
is the peaceful community action spoke of Wildstands, and is a community initiative to encourage civic responsibility prior to anticipated industrial clear-cut logging by Island Timberlands on their private managed forest lands on Cortes. Island Stance is committed to, and publicly stated, that they will engage in peaceful direct action. This may include: community education (workshops, public meetings, placards, banners, public brochures & articles, tables at markets, or other community events); AND direct participation - (symbolic action, humour, creative arts & expression, road sit-ins, writing campaigns, blockades on public land, filming, respectful communication. Island Stance has agreed they WILL NOT participate in property damage (damage to equipment, vehicles, roads or lands, including no tree spiking); OR personal harm (no personal offense, no bodily harm).
