SUMMER YOUTH REC PROGRAMS SCHEDULE
Week of July 11th -15th


This week on the Summer Youth Rec Programs (otherwise known as SYRP), the Circus is in town!

Circus Camp with Kaya Kehl from Flying Fox Circus
Is in full effect at the School Gym, with mornings ages 7-10 & afternoons ages 10-15. Kids have been playing at tumbling, juggling, staff, poi, aerialist silk work, stilt walking, acrobatics and the rola-bola ...to name a few! The show of all the circus kids performances are on Friday so it's not too late to get your kids in for the second half of Circus Camp and Friday's show, talk to Mary at the Hall (935-0015) about registration prices for partial Circus Camps this week.

Action Camp! Has now gone to full Mondays-Thursdays this week, running from 3 pm until 4:30 pm each day. Ryan Harvey is on Mondays, Mike Hansen is doing hackeysack & ballgames this Tuesday, Sheri Ranger is hosting this Wednesday & Thursday with basketball, juggling, martial arts & acrobatics.

Waiting on registrations to run:
Wednesday: Down Dawg! With Jennifer McLeish Lewis: A hiphop dance/yoga fusion class
Thursday: West African Drum with Claudia Raaen
& Visual Artforms: Spontaneous Vision Boarding with Zyla Waters.

AWESOME ACTION coming up in July:

Multi-Media Camp with Jana Lynne White. During this 4 day multimedia camp, the project youth will be working on creating & filming is a video intro to the music video of their choice, with a discussion on how each music video is meaningful to the participant. This is a youth empowerment orientated camp.

Jacob Cino: Scholarship winning dance instructor/yoga teacher visiting Cortes from Montreal. He's been dancing professionally for the past 7 years, performing the works of Peter Bingham, Martha Carter , Kesseke Yeow and Zab Maboungou. He has created music scores for such dance artist as Amber Funk, Jennifer Mascal, Matha Carter and more and has taught in Canada, the USA, Jamaica & Trinidad. As a dancer he is trained in Contact improvisation, African dance, Contemporary African dance and Caribbean dance. He'll be performing at the Cortes Night! Fun-draising Bash for upgrades to Manson's sound system and is staying to teach classes in Contemporay African Dance, Flow Yoga for Youth, Contact Dance, Hip Hop vocals & how to DJ & make an Electronic Music Track.

Improv Theatre, Creative Contact Dance & Mask Making with Jade De Trey.
Founder of Methuselah Dance troupe, teacher & performer of creative dance and theatre, Jade De Trey is trained in modern dance, contact improvisation dance and improv theatre and singing. Who wants to laugh and have some silly making fun? You? This is a week of theatre games, creative movement activities, partner focusing, group games, silly voices, expressing and exaggerating emotions and of course, being yourself in a playful and wildly entertaining way (even if you thought you were shy or couldn't do it at first, you will feel like a pro by the end!) You will learn some fun games, you will gain confidence in your body movement, and as well your brain will get a good creative workout.
