Stewards of the Gorge
Thank You –Thank You – Thank You! We are grateful to all who helped out on Sunday May 29. Fun was had by all and the Gorge was left many kilos cleaner than before the workgroup toiled.
We met at 09:30 for coffee and were marshaled into boats and to do actual work by Hubert Havelaar who together with Amanda Glickman pressed everyone present into service. Barry ran the 37-foot barge to collect the garbage. In total over 25 people participated. The prizes were plentiful and scores of plastic parts were restored to their original shellfish farm owners, several tires, none usable, and dozens of bags of debris were collected. Two enormous floats were recovered. There was noticeably less Styrofoam than last year. Whether this reflects a change in usage or the efforts of past clean ups is unclear. The work party was followed by a BBQ. The clean up was sponsored by the Stewards of Gorge Harbour Society and supported by a grant from the Strathcona Regional District.A special thanks to Noba for smoothing the way by informing us of potential grant opportunities.
