To all Cortes Non-Profit (& non-commercial) Boards and Organizations:

Please include this letter and attached survey (see the attachment link at the bottom of this article) on your next board agenda for discussion and return the completed survey ASAP to Noba Anderson.

In 2010, the overall Strathcona Regional District (SRD) Grant-in-Aid fund was doubled and a grant was provided to assist with fundraising support for Cortes non-profit community organizations. This grant has funded Sandra Wood who is working with many of you to find fundraising and grant opportunities. Because this program was been well received, it is now in its second year with funding from the SRD. This cross-organizational program has inspired many of us to consider what other inter-organizational opportunities exist that would support the excellent volunteer work that you all do for the benefit of our island community.

I have helped to convene representatives from many non-profits who have met four times since late last year. They have been exploring projects that will serve many Cortes organizations in a way that individual organization seem to not do individually. The three needs that have risen to the top of those discussion after four meeting are: 1. board training, 2. facilitation training and funding, and 3. an inter-organization print publication.

The regular cycle of 2011 Grant-in-Aids have been awarded and $3,776 remains in the 2011 fund. I have mentally earmarked these funds to support inter-organizational activities that meet identified needs. The attached survey is intended to further help identify the specific needs in the three above mentioned topic areas. Please take some time as a board/committee to discuss these questions and return the survey to me:

I would also be MORE than happy to attend your next meeting to discuss these items with your organization and hear from you directly.

I look forward to hearing from you,
