After much community consultation, 3 months of meetings and ongoing discussions, Cortes Literacy's task group has decided to take on 2 major projects. It was identified that our community is lacking a centre for sharing and learning skills that are pertinent to our
unique lifestyles. This skills centre will offer monthly themes in a wide variety of topics from small business management, to adventure & leadership, to board training & facilitation, to outdoor wilderness skills, to computer skills. Coordinators from the program will be looking to hire local experts willing to share some time with participants, so watch for news from the Cortes Skills Centre. The other is a health literacy project and oriented around mental well-being and other invisible challenges of people all ages. Its
focus is to provide ongoing programming as well as to address the need for more resources in immediate crisis.
Financial and human resources are limited on both accounts, and both projects are open to and seeking grants and in-kind donations where applicable to meet their goals and objectives. Both projects are massive collaborative efforts among a network of organizations and individuals. There are numerous ways to help. Many thanks to all of those people who've put in numerous hours of their time into this process so far!! If you want to join the collaboration, email Coreen at cortesliteracytwincomm.ca
