On April 26th there will be a gathering at the Conville Bay salmon farm in Hoskyn Channel which forms part of the "Wild Salmon Narrows". Part of the contingent including Alexandra Morton will be coming from Campbell River via Okisollo Channel to the north. Alexandra is attempting to make the continued existence of wild salmon an election issue and has received replies for 53 candidates thus far and writes "John Duncan (Conservative) is the only candidate to support open-net salmon farms remaining in BC waters (All Candidates meeting, Port McNeill). While the NDP, Liberals and Greens support moving the industry onto land to make more permanent jobs in a sustainable industry. The Conservatives are unable to say they support wild salmon. They are telling me they want to wait for the results of the Cohen Inquiry. However, Randy Kamp and Ed Fast who I have met with, will not commit to implementing Justice Cohen’s recommendations."
Misty Isles will leave the Whaletown public dock at 10am Tuesday April 26th to join the rally in Hoskyn Channel. Let's go see first hand what is going on over there between Read and Quadra Island.
Donations for the Georgia Strait Alliance, Alexandra's Salmon Are Sacred or for Misty Isles fuel are accepted but not required.
We can only take 12 folks so email mistyisisland.net or phone 935-6756 to get a spot onboard.
Any other boats would be most welcome!
