Problems on popular trails have been brought to the attention of the Minister of Environment by North Island MLA Claire Trevena.
She’s written to Minister Murray Coell to ask for extra funds to ensure that the Canyon View Trail in Elk Falls Provincial Park can be repaired as soon as possible.
“The cost of repair will have a major impact on the budget for the Park; no contingency fund could anticipate the level of damage caused by the recent bad weather,” she said.
“Thousands of people walk that trail year round: it is hugely popular for residents and for tourists.”
Repairs to the damage to the North Coast Trail in Cape Scott Provincial Park, caused during the September rain storm, are being covered by the Provincial Emergency Programme. Trevena is seeking some equity on funds to repair the damage in the Campbell River area parks.
The Parks service is still examining whether the trail by the Quinsam River, also severely damaged by recent flooding can, or should, be repaired.
