Claude Poulin has been in the woodworking business for 27 years. Ten years ago, he decided to leave the hustle and bustle of the city and move to Cortes Island. It was a positive choice. Since then, Claude has had the good fortune to work with and for some exceptional people.
Claude says from, as far back as he can remember, he wanted to be a wood worker. His passion for building began as a boy building shelters and airplanes. He learned a lot from his father who was a carpenter too. Much later and with substantial practical experience to his credit, Claude took evening classes in carpentry at the Okanogan University College. From there, he joined the Canadian Home Builder’s Association and studied to obtain his registered homebuilder certificate. Then he met a master cabinetmaker that he apprenticed with for four years. He considers himself lucky to be in the trade and after all these years, he still loves it.
Claude’s favorite part of the building process is to listen to customers’ ideas and turn them into reality. “When I design, I connect with the vision of the overall project. The work flows out of the vision and as I build, I give attention to solutions that maintain the integrity of the vision.”
Claude has worked in every area of carpentry from the foundation to the roof. For the last 15 years, he has focused his talent on custom doors, windows, cabinetry, kitchens and countertops as well as interior finishing. He uses environmentally friendly materials and supports local suppliers, contractors, and artisans whenever he can.
Recently, Claude became a representative for Merit Kitchens; a Canadian owned and operated company that produces cabinets for any room in the home. As a result, Claude can offer a wider range of options.
Claude set up his woodworking shop soon after arriving on Cortes Island and over the years has created an organized and efficient facility that contains the quality of tools and equipment essential to the fine craftsmanship Claude is known for. He also has a showroom and office where he meets with clients and shows samples of both custom products and production cabinets produced by Merit.
Claude invites you to review photos of some of his projects on this webpage and to call him at his shop, 250-935-0034, to talk further about your ideas. Thank you.
