I volunteered two months ago to assist the Southern Cortes Community Association board in planning repairs and improvements needed at Manson's Hall and am now a member of the board and vice president. (It's not hard to get involved, folks!)
The SCCA recently received the Vancouver Island Regional Library's long-awaited facilities assessment report on their branch at Manson's Hall. It was no surprise that their consultants found the existing space inadequate in a number of respects, especially head room and floor loading. I was asked by the board to contact VIRL and discuss options.
In a phone conversation last week, VIRL's Director of Finance was clear that they did not expect the SCCA to modify the present library to their standards and preferred to seek a new location.
The SCCA's library committee is meeting soon to consider VIRL's Request for Expressions of Interest in providing rentable space for the library and to make a recommendation to the board. Another location on the SCCA property is a possibility.
More information to come. Stay tuned.
