Jackie Frioud: Artist’s Statement
Clay provides endless possibilities for expressing the inspiration I get from the land and ocean near my studio in Horseshoe Bay and our family cabin in Refuge Cove. Rocks, water, snow and the intertidal zone fascinate me as I hike and kayak on the West Coast.
My white porcelain ware is minimalist, inspired by the contemporary design of Scandinavia and Japan.
My salt-fired stoneware is also modern in form, but the surfaces, which have been played on by the flame and glazed by the salt vapours, are earthy and unpredictably varied.
Both lines are durable, and dishwasher and microwave safe, perfect for everyday use.
