PROTECT YOURSELF AND THOSE AROUND YOU. The Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) is encouraging everyone to get their flu shot this year. It is the best way to protect yourself and your family from influenza.

Influenza immunization is FREE for:
Influenza immunization is FREE for:
People 65 and older and their caregivers
Children and adults with chronic health conditions and their household contacts
Health care workers
Emergency responders
Healthy children aged 6-23 months
Household contacts and caregivers of children aged 0-23 months
Pregnant women who will be in their 3rd trimester during the influenza season
Residents of nursing homes and other chronic care facilities
Owners and operators of poultry farms
Aboriginal peoples
People who are very obese (those with a body mass index of 40 or greater)
Corrections officers and inmates in provincial correctional institutions
Those who provide care or service in potential outbreak settings housing high risk persons (e.g. crew on ships)

If you meet any of the above criteria, you can receive your flu shot at the following local flu shot clinic:

Cortes Island - Cortes Health Centre
Wednesday November 3, 2010
11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m

Please bring your Care Card to the Influenza Clinic.
If you don't meet the above criteria, but still want the protection of a flu shot, contact your family physician or pharmacy about vaccine availability and cost.
