Second Open Gathering – All Welcome
Come for the food, music and childcare (by donation).
Tuesday, September 21st, 6 pm, Linnaea School.
Learn and share new ways of gathering, holding community meetings and making decisions.
Last Tuesday, 11 of us gathered to discuss how to use more open and engaging communication and decision-making methods as an island community. We invite you to join us one week later for a second gathering.
The successful August ‘Open Space’ gathering about the funding of our community halls has inspired some who want to learn more about these new methods of gathering and decision-making. This evening is NOT topic specific. We are gathering to learn, share and practice techniques, not discuss issues. Many believe that it is time for this community to expand its tool-kit and pattern new ways of discussing complex and important community topics. Rod Lee’s recent ‘Going Forward’ letter to the community has caught many people’s attention and we may well be in a moment of change. If you are interested in learning how to either lead or participate in new forms of gathering, ‘Open Space’ included, please join us.
One of the most profound lessons that we are on the cusp of learning from this whole hall tax debacle is a new way of communicating with each other to make important collective decisions about complex community issues. Many of us, with our best intentions, shaped a process that could have been much better. I have certainly been called to task on this, and my strongest critics are proving invaluable in pointing out places where I, and we as a community, can do better.
