In an email today (Aug. 30), Max Walker, Area Manager in Courtenay for the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, wrote:

"I have been advised by Emcon’s road superintendent that the barge operator scheduled to deliver gravel from Texada is not going to be able to deliver this week.

"Stu (Travis), the (Emcon) road superintendent, is trying to make alternate arrangements but has thus far been unsuccessful. Unless Stu can get another barge, the schedule for Cortes will have to be set back a week.

"Stu did advise me that Tayco Paving has now produced some cold mix asphalt in Cumberland and that he is arranging for some to be delivered to Cortes."

It is encouraging to receive an unsolicited update from Max and to see that some of spots have been fixed and others have been marked with white spray paint, presumably for repair. (Emcon is the road maintenance contractor for Cortes.) There is still a lot to be done. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate.
