Here the gist of an e-mail sent to the Chief Medical Officer of VIHA and mailed to CCHA. It concerns the renewal of the contract for Dr. Overhill, who was previously responsible for medical services at the Cortes Island Medical Centre that she had helped to establish. Last spring she needed a half-year leave of absence to recover from recurrent corneal abrasion and exhaustion. She had been a good doctor: perceptive and reliable in her diagnoses, helpful with transfers to hospitals and specialists, and generally kind and thoughtful, so she had all reason to expect that her contract would be renewed. Moreover, her husband had built a house for them on this island and she was determined to serve our community until her retirement. The reasons for the rejection of her request were made known neither to her nor to us, her patients. I believe that this issue should be reviewed.
