Bouquets of Roses to Cortes Island and to all those for keeping faith in our children and our future.
In July as I stepped up to take on this task of leading the Summer Youth Program, I found myself plunged into the amazing waters of learning, working and building relations with my community, local and visiting children and their families and creating the non-profit Cortes Island Summer Youth Recreation Program . I am so grateful for this experience and opportunity to serve my community.
Thank you to Mary L and my family: Phil, Joe and Lilly, for your endless patience and inspiration.
Thank you to the fabulous team of instructors: Laura, Kaya, Carrie, Aaron, Norleen, Jade, John, Adam, Francesca, Damian and Ira.
Thanks to all our hosts: the island for its natural beauty, Campbell River School Board for availing the Cortes Island School facilities, the SCCA for free use of table space at the Friday Market, CCCU for permitting us community partnership, Thomas for use of the soccer balls, and Dianne K for your studio, Amber and Sean, Benne, Mary and Jeremy, and Richard for accommodations.
Thank you to all the individuals who donated funds: Laura M., Diana M., Karen O., Susan P., Chi L., in your quiet way your faith is most noble.
Thank you to our wonderful business community who contributed towards our fund raising/ raffle prizes: Delectable goodies purchased with the assistance of the CNFC, Marnie’s Books (Hardback novel), VIRL (adult and children’ books) Reel Youth (DVD), Irene Blueth (silver earrings), Sunset ($25 gift certificate), Gorge Marina (3 family swim passes), Market Take Out (3 gift certificates), Hollyhock (dinner for two), Cortes Market (skateboard).
Thank you to all those who bought the fundraising raffle tickets! From these efforts we sponsored bursaries for our local children and ensured start up seed money for our next years Cortes Island Summer YOUth Recreation Program. Congratulations to the winners: Tamara McPhail 1st prize skateboard and gift certificates for the Market Take out, Jensen Schmidt basket one, and Angel basket two
Most importantly THANK YOU to all the children who took part in our activities. To see your efforts and smiling faces as you take on new challenges is truly life affirming. This is an amazing community and I am truly grateful to those guiding spirits, all our local skills, expertise and financial support that have helped us along. Again I welcome your future input and welcome others to join in towards make our children and community thrive! Please contact me Susan John sujonuniserve.com or 250-935-6665 with your suggestions and requests. Keep watch on Cortes Tidelines and local flyers for circus, soccer, sports, boating, sailing and wilderness first aid is to be adding to our line up of courses next summer.
May we respect our faith in ourselves and each other, always play and learn to expand ourselves, direct our power of being as individual’s, families and community. ‘As we let our light shine so we permit others to shine too!’ Thank you again so much!
In service and gratitude,
Susan S.C. John (B.FA, B.Ed)
