Dr. Overhill has been my doctor for the 11 years I have lived on the island and cared for my husband John during his life.
Kirstie gave superb medical care to John during the final years of his life and she certaily made it possible for John to stay at home, and for me to cope, for much longer than would otherwise been possible.
Kirstie treated John with deep respect, compassiona and empathy for a man who was suffering a frightening and increasinly painful deteriorating physical situation. She was always avaiable to see John, often in our home when travelling in a vehicle became too difficult. Her medical care was superior to any care we could have received anywhere else in B.C. ( I do know this because I worked in the B. C. Ministry of Health in Long Term Care for 10 years as a provincial manager).
Kirstie made professional referrals, assisted when a "doctor's letter" meant additional assistance might be available and supported our alternative health choices.
Kirstie's care extended to me during my time of deep grieving with compassion and support and for which I will always be deeply thank ful.
I was a member of the CCHA Board when the Cortes Health Centre plan was conceived and I know how much credit for the success of Cortes Island having this beautiful building and successful health centre must be attributed to Kirstie.
