The Cortes soccer team performed magnificently this weekend at the Comox Valley Co-ed 7 a-side tournament. Unbeaten in six games, they lost in a penalty shootout after conceding a heartbreaking last minute equalizer.
During the weekend more questions were posed than answered. Is the light that emanates from Swami LaBerge’s twinkling feet truly divine? Is it true their goalie asked to look at Dino's video of Amy’s goal because he hadn’t seen it the first time ? Can there be a clearer demonstration of Kinetic and Potential Energy than by watching Max and Colin play on the same team ? Is “Marc’s Wall” actually a contemplation on his goalkeeping prowess ? Is Thea Block’s searing pace and blistering shot a result of nature rather than nurture ? Is the Comox Valley still vibrating from the rocket Jonah Weyler launched off the crossbar in our final game ? Has Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion ever before been evoked in a half time strategy talk ? When Barry Saxifrage picks us up and carries us on his back , do we all get a Carbon Footprint credit? Did Bradley Wicks actually pledge to forgo his Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll lifestyle to become a soccer player ?
This is the 30th anniversary of playing the Beautiful Game on Cortes Island. It just gets better and better. Get your World Cup Pool entries in by Thursday and help support kids soccer on the island.
