I had thought that logging in sensitive areas could be curtailed by designating them as DP areas. Beth Reese, planner for the Regional District, states that DP area designation restricts developments such as buildings, but there are exemptions on working landscapes that allow forestry in DP areas. She suggests that we ask the OCP consultants to research the most effective way to achieve protection from logging in sensitive areas. The two provincial statutes that might apply are the Private Managed Forest Land Act and Riparian Area Regulations. She stated that the province can do hydrological studies that can provide the information to protect groundwater recharge areas. We could ask our consultants how such studies can be obtained and use Sabina’s work to substantiate our request for further investigation. Apologies if my last post about DP areas was misleading. I have deleted it.
