Notices, Workshops & Rides: Youth Paddle Making Workshop
May 22, 23 3-6pm
Paddle Making is an accessible introduction to the life skills of seafaring. The opportunity to build paddles out of local cedar will draw a connection between the land that we occupy and the sea that surrounds us.
This workshop will take place at Erik Lyon’s carving and boat building shop. Snacks will be provided. On the first afternoon we will cut paddle blanks, be introduced to carving, and discuss seafaring and boat design. On the second afternoon, we will finish carving and painting our paddles.
Paddle making with Erik will provide an introduction to tool use, design, and painting while building connection and continuity for canoe based outdoor leadership projects in the future.
Erik Lyon is a local artist who builds and creates decorative & functional work. He is a talented and experienced carver, illustrator, and painter with years of experience building and using boats.
