PARATANGO, A concert of tango music was presented by Whaletown Community Club in the Gorge Hall Saturday. March 27th.

Two energetic and passionate artists entertained and enlightened us with a variety of Tango tunes that ranged from the humorous to the melancholic.

Linda Lee Thomas is the Principal Pianist of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the Vancouver Radio Orchestra. She was Artistic Director of Masterpiece Music, the Vancouver East Cultural Centre's chamber music series for 17 years.

Jonathan Goldman, playing the bandoneon, is on the faculty of the University of Victoria's School of music as a musicologist.

I like the commentator below was wisked away by this slow milonga. (I was in Europe, in particular, France.)

Comment by Norberto
To me, one of the best, and most moving songs that ParaTango played last night was  Los Ejes de Mi Carreta,  the slow milonga as they described it, for those of you who also liked that beautiful song, these are the lyrics... translation follows and a link to watch a video....

Los Ejes De Mi Carreta

Lyrics by Atahualpa Yupanqui

Porque no engraso los ejes
me llaman abandonao.
Porque no engraso los ejes
me llaman abandonao.

Si a mí me gusta que suenen,
pa' qué los quiero engrasaos.
Si a mí me gusta que suenen,
pa' qué los quiero engrasaos.

Es demasiado aburrido
seguir y seguir la huella,
Es demasiado aburrido
seguir y seguir la huella,
Andar y andar los caminos
sin nada que me entretenga.
Andar y andar los caminos
sin nada que me entretenga.

No necesito silencio,
yo no tengo en qué pensar.
No necesito silencio,
yo no tengo en qué pensar.
Tenía, pero hace tiempo,
ahora ya no tengo más.
Tenía, pero hace tiempo,
ahora ya no tengo más.

Los ejes de mi carreta,
nunca los voy a engrasar.

Translation...

Because I don't grease up the axles,
they call me a careless man;
because I don't grease up the axles,
they call me a careless man.
If I like the noise they're making,
why should I want to grease them?
If I like the noise they're making,
why should I want to grease them?

It's far too boring a life
to follow and follow the pathway;
it's far too boring a life
to follow and follow the pathway—
to go down the same old roads
with nothing to entertain me...
to go down the same old roads
with nothing to entertain me.
I ain't got no use for silence,
I got no one to think about;
I ain't got no use for silence,
I got no one to think about...
I used to, but time's gone by,
and now I don't think no more;
I used to, but time's gone by,
and now I don't think no more.
The axles of my wagon wheels,
I'm never gonna grease them again.
