The job of the Seniors Helping Seniors Coordinator is to oversee the SHS project and help it to fulfill its function in the following ways:
- recruiting volunteers to help in various situations, organizing lunches and activities and making sure that there is transportation available to these. The aim is to encourage enjoyable social interaction among seniors on Cortes, particularly those who are faced with illness, bereavement, or isolation.
- reporting to a committee, the Coordinator will also maintain all records, and participate in fundraising.
-the position requires administrative and organizational abilities, excellent phoning and interpersonal skills, computer skills for research and a monthly newsletter, and most of all an interest and enjoyment in working with older people.
-this is a part-time position (max. 8 hours a week) which requires flexibility, availability by phone, and a willingness to handle unpredictable situations quickly and creatively. Having a car would be also necessary.
