Buy, Sell & Trade: Apple picking tips
Good Libations is happy to take your apples for pressing into fresh juice, cider or wine but here's some things to keep in mind:
- It's not a good idea to use apples have have been on the ground. There's all sorts of poop down there even if you can't see it (deer, bird, squirrel, etc.). If you really want those apples, wash them before bringing them in.
- Don't let your apples get too old after they're off the tree (watch out for this if you pick them off the ground). They get soft and won't go through the press. It's good to let them sit a week or so -- this lets them 'relax' and you get more juice -- but try to keep them as cool as reasonably possible.
- As a general rule of thumb you will get one litre of juice for 3 lbs. of apples.
- We'd appreciate you calling ahead before bringing them in.
