Start the New Year off with award winning filmmaker, Velcrow Ripper. The Comox Valley Unitarians are pleased to announce Velcrow Ripper will be in the Comox Valley January 23rd and 24th 2010 to engage community members with his “Shine your Fierce Light Workshop” and for two showings of his Fierce Light Film. Velcrow Ripper is a lot like his movies -- friendly, hopeful, full of electrifying ideas. He is a filmmaker with dozens of films and videos under his belt, including Scared Sacred, named one of Canada's Top 10 movies of 2004, and winner of the 2005 Genie (Canadian Academy Award) for best feature documentary. Bones of the Forest, his 1995 environmental meditation, was co-directed with Heather Frise and won nine major film awards, including a Genie for best feature length documentary and best of the festival at Hot Docs.
Ripper's newest movie, Fierce Light: When Spirit Meets Action has been wowing audiences around the world with its investigation of how we are connected to each other and to this planet. The film Fierce Light will play Saturday January 23 and Sunday January 24, 8 pm at Reel Films in Cumberland, FMI 250 336 0190.
The fierce workshop explores the power that is released when spirituality is combined with action. Gandhi called it "Soul Force," Thich Nhat Hahn calls it “Love in Action;” for Ripper it is "Fierce Light.” It is the power of the sacred warrior, heart centered and fierce at the same time. Featuring dynamic "engaged spirituality" practices and meditations, visualizations and exercises, the workshop will offer key tools to unleash your own "Fierce Light" and become a catalyst of transformation.
This workshop gives participants an opportunity to learn how to integrate the head and the heart, "doing" and "being," compassion and action, in order to be of the highest service both to yourself, and the world around you. Join millions of sacred warriors around the world, and become part of "The Great Turning," helping to make the shift from the industrial growth society, to the life sustaining civilization. A holistic journey of integration, from the personal, to the global, from the inner to the outer and back again. Discover your own Fierce Light, unwrap your gifts, and let them loose on the world.
This work shop is designed to expand your sense of self from the Ego Centric to the World Centric and Kosmocentric view. Throughout the day you will explore the integration of mind, body, spirit and shadow, learn to transform this era of crisis into a time of tremendous opportunity and awakening, while avoiding overwhelm and burn out. You will develop a concrete action plan to manifest your “Fierce Vision” and participate in a gift sharing ritual so you come home with a sacred object to hold your vision.
The “Shine your fierce light” workshop will be held from 1-6 pm in the Florence Filberg Rotary Room, January 24. Tickets are $30 and are available at the door or in advance at Laughing Oyster and Blue Heron bookstores. Subsidized tickets are available FMI contact: ValleyLinks 250-334-8063. Please bring a pen a notebook and a sacred gift with you.
