Mark your calendars!
On Thursday, December 10th Ken Melamed, Mayor of Whistler, will give an evening talk to the Cortes Community. Mayor Melamed will share strategies from the Whistler Housing Authority, an organization established in 1997 in order to to oversee the development of resident restricted housing in Whistler; as well as present on Whistler’s integrated approach to becoming a low carbon community.
Cortes and Whistler are clearly two very distinct communities, however, we do share some common issues such as affordable and reliable housing, and then need to decrease our carbon emissions. This will be an excellent opportunity for the Cortes community to hear about what works (and what doesn’t work!) elsewhere. Learning from other communities (including those communities we may feel are very different from our own) will only enhance our ability to create successful local solutions adapted for our local context. This is most important as we are soon to begin our official community plan review!
