The 2009 Season at the Old SchoolHouse Gallery has come to an end.

We want to send a big thank you to all the Cortes community for your incredible support for yet another very successful season.

A very special thank you to Richard Trueman for his constant support and reporting all our openings.

This season gave us, one more time, a wonderful variety of local talent, many artists, many techniques, unique exhibits: we began the season with Small Works, a group show; then Tianna Barton shared her photography talent with her solo show; a Shared Studio was part of the Studio Tour; The Fabrics of our Lives delivered a brilliant mix of works by Mary Dudley, Ayami Stryck and Diane Daly; then we had our usual portraits show, but this year the twist was focusing on the Essence of Portraits, with fascinating results; Meinsje awed the community with a solo show of her sculptures and we closed the season in an outstanding manner with the Lost Wood Awakening art installation by Inga Schumann and Tasha Meredith.

We have expressed to the community that our next big plan for the Gallery is to improve the building to make it usable in the Fall and Winter, with the specific idea of running cultural events, like art workshops and classes, art discussions, literature circles, small concerts and more.

The key things that are required to make this upgrading are to insulate the old building, to install a new heating system and ceiling fan and to change the overhead lights.

As you can see this is a major project and we are asking for financial support from the community.

Please remember the Gallery is not a commercial entity, the Gallery runs on a volunteer basis, as a service to the community, to provide a place where we can learn and care for our cultural needs. It is in the hands, and pockets, of all of us to make this a reality.

We will appreciate very much any financial help for this project. Please send your donations to Box 203, Whaletown BC, V0P 1Z0, make your cheques to Old Schoolhouse Art Gallery. Your support will have an impact in the whole community. Unfortunately we can not provide any tax receipts.

Thanks again, looking forward to see you at one of these cultural events...
