If you want to sign a petition protesting the B.C. Liberal Government's proposed " Harmonize Tax" ,
there is one available at The Squirrel Cove General Store.

Does anybody actually pay PST on stuff they sell at a garage sale ? And the governments wonder why they keep losing money to the underground economy. Cash is the only way to go. I suspect the HST will lead to less revenue for the government, not more. You can't squeeze water from a stone.

It sucks to have to pay an extra 7% on items that perviously only had a 5% gst on them. At the same time I am incredibly glad to see the PST go away.
The rules that determine what has PST on them are simply crazy and in fact led me to stop doing certain business activities so that I wouldn't have to mess around with the extra paperwork of collecting two taxes. For example, if I edit a document for you I only have to charge GST. If I then proceed to print it off I now charge GST and PST on the entire bill. What the heck is that all about?
These crazy rules go on and on, you have to be a lawyer not a small business owner to figure them out.
The rules for filing gst? Simple, and the best part is you don't even need to collect if you earn less than $30,000. With the PST you need to collect if you sell used stuff at a garage sale or on tideline. Want to avoid paying HST altogether then support local neighborhood sized small businesses.
I don't care for the increased taxation we will see from HST but I sure would rather have that than the PST.
