Cortes Housing Initiative/OCP
Cortes Housing Initiative (CHI) and
the Official Community Plan (OCP) Review Committee jointly presents The Housing Survey – our present needs and future wants.
Good housing options are key to healthy communities. In order to make good planning decisions in the upcoming community plan review, we need good up-to-date information on our current housing situation and needs. To gather this information we need your help.
A HOUSING SURVEY will be delivered to all mailboxes in mid-July.
Housing isn’t just about houses. It is an issue that affects quality of life in the community. As part of the OCP review, this survey will help us find out what people’s needs are today and to start exploring where we want to go in the future.
Housing affordability is not just affected by rent or mortgage payments. Living closer to work/shopping might reduce our cost of living (and greenhouse gas emissions). For some, thoughtfully designed business and residential combination villages can increase social and economic opportunities, enhance interactions between families, improve opportunities for communal childcare support and alleviate isolation. For others, lots of space and solitude are the right answer. We also want the forests to be sustained. These are just some of the topics that need to be discussed in creating a wholistic housing plan for Cortes Island's future. By addressing these issues in the upcoming Community Plan, we can work together to create a lasting legacy of a healthier and more sustainable island community. But we all need to participate to come up with answers that are right for Cortes. The housing survey gets the ball rolling. So please take a few minutes and fill it out!
