www.dyemetothemoon.blogspot.comI am a gypsy quilter.
I am a passionate hand-dyer.
I am an intuitive designer.
Color is my vehicle.
Fabric is my highway.
Let's journey together through the land of imagination and creativity.
I am a fiber artist. Early retirement from elementary education has brought me the gifts of time and space to pursue my love of hand-dyeing and quilting. Each day I receive additonal gifts of new imaginations and creations. Add to it my wonderful family, fantastic friends, and two incredible seasonal settings (a remote British Columbia island and Mazatlan, Mexico) to live, work, and play: for all of this I feel truly grateful.
At a single-digit age, my mother generously allowed me to use her sewing machine. (I remember breaking lots of needles!) I instantly began sewing Barbie clothes, blankets and curtains for homemade doll houses, jackets for my cat, and anything else I could imagine. In high school, I took the required home-ec classes, which have been about the extent of my formal education in the sewing arts. In 1998 I was introduced to hand-dyeing using ProcionMX dyes, and that was the start of a long and happy relationship. I only use hand-dyes and love the challenge of color and texture work. I have spent hundreds of hours of playtime in the dye studio, along with collaboration with other artists and quilters. I learn something new every time I work with someone. My quilting is mostly original designs and always full of free motion fun!
In Mazatlan, I am living my dream: I have a working dye studio and gallery enclosed within the beautiful home I share with my husband Tom, located in the charming Centro Historico district. I also volunteer with a local group of Mexican women who sew for a living. I am working to inspire more creative expression in their work (embellishments, fabric painting, etc). I feel honored to be a part of this group.
Back in BC I settle into my island home in the small coastal community of Refuge Cove in Desolation Sound. Here I continue my creative pursuits in a more tranquil, isolated, and close-to-nature setting. I have belonged to the Cortes Craft Shop Co-op since 2001 and sell my wares there each summer. I also belong to the Quadra Island Quilters Guild, a wonderful group of talented, creative and active women. Our guild sponsors the Quadra Island Quilt and Garden Tour.
These beautiful areas that I call home have instilled in me a love of nature, the ocean, regional culture, and of course a feel and appreciation for the spirit of humanity and the friendships I have made along the way. You will discover these elements in my work.
