Please join us on June 6th, from 3:00-5:00 pm, at the Manson’s Hall for a meeting in regards to the Literacy Now Grant and the money Cortes has received to develop literacy in our community. Literacy is by no means limited to reading and writing in this case, but is more focused on the idea of lifelong learning and the many ways we can learn to communicate and be valuable members or our community. The Literacy Now Grant sees literacy as something that enables participation in family, work and community life. Literacy is not only the communication skills of reading, writing and mathematics, but also problem solving, decision-making, technology and social skills. Sustainable living, intergenerational connections, art, sport, and culture all fit into this grant’s ideas of literacy; and this is just the beginning.
Please join us on the 6th for a group discussion about how we are already approaching literacy here on Cortes, and how we can further develop our dedication to continually offering opportunities for learning in our community. All ideas are welcome. The long term goal is for the completion of a community plan that will be submitted to Literacy Now in the hopes of accessing funding to continue existing projects and developing new ones.
