In the past two years I have seen 3 wolves on the main roads, had to scream and throw rocks at 3 sleeping in a yard on Hernando at a job site, they kept coming back, and last week saw another 3, not the same ones, on Twin Island. I thought that maybe it would be a good idea to share our encounters on the Tideline to keep tabs on the situation and where they might be hanging. Feel free to add yours in the comments below.
Wolves on Coulter/Cortes
Comment by Bill Crago on 7th March 2009
Two years ago, I looked out my window and saw two wolves ,one grey one black coming up from the shore and disappeared into the woods. At first I thought they might be dogs but since I had the only dog on island I guessed they were wolves. About twenty minutes later my neighbor at the end of Coulter Bay was yelling at me from his boat in front of the house. He said he had seen a whole pack of wolves at the south end of the bay. They had chased a deer into the water and one of the wolves was following. The deer did beat the wolf to the island but that meant that there must have been at least three on Coulter. One of the dogs was a basset hound and for several days after he was at alert every time he was out.
Also last summer, driving over to market we saw a black one crossing the road.
