Dear students and friends of Venerable Sakya Lama Geshe Tashi Namgyal:
October 25 Ceremony of Remembrance for Geshe-la
All of Geshe-la’s students, friends, associates and acquaintances are invited to a service of remembrance to be held on October 25, at 12:00 noon at the Interfaith Chapel at the University of Victoria, BC, with reception to follow at the University Club. The Venerable Lama Pema Wangdak of New York, a close friend of Geshe-la and a translator of his spoken teachings, will kindly preside over the service.
Geshe-la passed from this world on September 7, 2008. His passing was followed by a period of approximately one week in the profound meditative state of ‘tukdam’. At Lama Pema’s suggestion, Lama Kunga Dhondup of the Pema Ts’al Sakya Monastic Institute of Pokhara, Nepal, and his assistant TashiWangyal, came to Victoria from Japan on very short noticeto carry out the ceremonies, rituals and observances appropriate to the passing of a lama of Geshe-la’s attainments.
Lama Tashi Wangyal is generously continuing for 49 days to make offerings to Geshe-la’s presence and to hold pujas at the Victoria Buddhist Dharma Centre. Please see the attached file for complete information and directions to the Inter Faith Chapel at the University of Victoria.
