Collages & installation by CATHLEEN THOM featured artist for the month of October at DRAW Gallery. Opening Reception Friday October 3rd 6 - 8pm.
These works explore the idea of sacred places, from the historical to the metaphorical, ranging from ancient temples and medieval cathedrals to tiny altars and the human heart. What makes one place sacred and another merely ordinary? How does our own attention enchant some places while others develop on their own? These questions are explored in a series of paintings and collages which are themselves composed of ideas and materials from many different places. During the course of the show, the gallery itself will become a sacred space for contemplation, anchored by a small shrine. You are welcome to bring your own messages, prayers, and offerings for the shrine, or add some from the array provided. People visit sacred places for many different reasons, and draw many different experiences from them. May you find what you need from this show, and from your own sacred spaces.
