Plein air painting developed in France in the mid 19th century is becoming increasingly popular for artists seeking the quality of natural light of atmosphere outdoors and their work is in direct response to the beauty they find in nature, in a variety of media, from oils, through watercolors and pastels. Quadra Island Paint Out 2008 is happening on Saturday and Sunday, September 6-7, 9 AM -4 PM, with the support of Firesign Art & Design Studio and B&B in conjunction with the International Plein Air Painters (IPAP) Worldwide Paint Out and as part of British Columbia’s 150th birthday celebration this year. On Saturday, artists will paint at Rebecca Spit Provincial Park at various locations. On Sunday, September 7, at 3:00 PM there will be an exhibit of the weekend’s work and a reception at the Heriot Bay Inn. The public is invited to view the art and meet the artists. Event organizer, Nanci Cook, says there is a joy about paintings outdoors and this is a chance for people to see professional artists at work, developing their paintings in response to the beauty in nature.
