The current show at the SchoolHouse Art Gallery is something different indeed !
With his show, Joel Doyle is giving us the opportunity to experience an “installation art” .
An installation art uses sculptural materials and other media to modify the way a particular space is experienced. Installation art is not necessarily confined to gallery spaces and can be any material intervention in everyday public or private spaces.
Installation art incorporates almost any media to create an experience in a particular environment. Materials used in contemporary installation art range from everyday and natural materials to other media, such as video, sound, performance and more.
Some installations are site-specific in that they are designed to only exist in the space for which they were created.
In this particular installation, Joel combines his pieces with building materials, sound, light, and more, creating a fascinating space.
Some of the comments we have heard about this show are:
...what is this?
I feel I am in a New York City gallery !
