Antiques and artwork have a special connection with Cortes Island, and you can learn more about that connection by visiting our table display at the Friday Market on August 1, 8, and 15th (sealed bids will be accepted at the Friday Market, if you are unable to attend the auction on the 17th).
Feature artist of this week is June Cameron:
June first visited Cortes Island in 1930. June now lives on Cortes, where she captures the beauty of Cortes in her paintings and the history of Cortes in her books.
June has donated her print, The Board Room:
This is a giclee print of an acrylic painting. The print is on archival canvas. I was moored in my little sailboat near the Canadian Fishing Company dock in Campbell River when a whole flotilla of seine boats began pulling into port. I took a flock of photos for reference, eliminated the metal ones, kept the handsome old wooden ones then added a sport fishing boat for contrast. I call it The Board Meeting and the little while fiberglass boat coming into view represents a hostile takeover. The early morning light in Campbell River is always pink thanks to smoke from the pulp mill upstream.
Featured Antique: Victorian Silver Cruet Set, crystal with ARIS coating has been donated by Peggy O'Neill.
