General News · 10th July 2008
I am pleased to announce that Christine Duketow, Tim Hicken, and Shannon Jonassen will be returning to our school in September. Ms. Duketow will continue as our primary teacher in a K-2 classroom with 18 students enrolled at present. Ms. Jonassen will teach Socials and English as well as Learning Assistance, while Mr. Hicken will teach Math, Science, PE, and electives including Woodworking. At present we have approximately 20 students enrolled in the secondary class for the next school year.
Our staff also wishes to welcome Liesa van Rossem who has accepted the secretarial position at our school. Liesa is already hard at work learning the ins and outs of Cortes School from Linda Gardner who will be moving into a secretarial position at Timberline Secondary School. We all extend our best wishes to Linda as she moves into this new phase of her life and career. We'll miss her tremendously.
We have not yet filled the Intermediate position, but have shortlisted several candidates. Interviews will occur at a later date and when the teacher has been assigned to this position I will inform the community. At this point we expect to have 24 students in the Intermediate class in September.
Everyone is looking forward to a very successful year as we welcome new students, a new secretary, and returning teachers to our Cortes Island School community.
