Lore
Dear IslandNeighbours, as you might already know the BC Ministry of Forestry has proposed a new Woodlot on 680 acres between Squirrel Cove & Seaford. See map above.

The logging licensee, Bryan Mills came to Cortes together with the Ministry of Forestry on June 5th for a mid afternoon community meeting. Approximately 50 residents showed up with many concerns.

Based on this meeting a letter has been composed.

Please see the attached letter we are planning to send to Bryan Mills, requesting that the licensee consider selling it back to the residents of Cortes, to be incorporated into a Community Forest, so that we can protect as much of the sensitive habitat as possible.

If you would like to add your signature to this letter you can do so at the following locations (June 20 to 26, 2008)

* Friday Market at Irene's stand (contact Irene)

* Squirrel Cove General Store (contact O'Bryne)

* Recycle Centre (contact Dova)

* Cortes Natural Food Coop

* Trude's Cafe
What Community Forest?
Comment by Stan Oliver on 19th June 2008
As I have stated in the past, "there will never be a community forest on Cortes", there is no more land available to create such a thing. The CEFS and the personal interests of that society has made nothing in the way of such a thing. If things were professionally documented by CEFS as suggested in the letter to Bryan Mills, then who were the Pro's that documented it? Are they self proclaimed Pro's? Please fully inform the community before creating another, "chicken little", the sky is falling buzz.
