We are very pleased to announce the 2008 season calendar for the Old SchoolHouse Art Gallery.
We will continue with the same format as the past couple of years, where each show lasts two weekends: Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The calendar for this year is quite exciting and diverse with seven different shows, as follows (the dates refers to Fridays)
June 27 and July 4 - Cortes Clay Show. Coordinated by Scott Knutson, this show gives an opportunity to all local ceramists to present their artistic clay pieces. A good way to characterize this show is “where craft becomes art.” Contact Scott at 935-0181 if you want to participate.
July 11 - NonSoquiter; Explore your inner Soq. Jessica Lea Holding will display many original textile based art pieces, grouped together in 4 or 5 dioramas. Each diorama invites the audience to explore themes and genres of creation such as Sea Soqs, Inspirational Soqs, Naughty Soqs and more. Be ready for something different.
July 18 and 25 - Light Being. A black and white photography collective show, with works by Richard Trueman, Philip Wood and John Preston.
Aug 1 and 8 - Four D’s. A mixed media group show, with stone carvings by Donna Naven; watercolours by Don Ross; woven baskets and bone carvings by Doreen Guthrie and metal sculptures by Dale Thomas.
Aug 15 and 22 - Encased and Unravelling. Joel Doyle’s solo show. After finishing his BFA in Halifax, Joel is returning to Cortes to show his new sculptures in clay. He says “ this new series are reminders that information is being hidden from us, that oppressive powers are doing everything to destroy diversity, and technology is so intertwined with our being that it is difficult to unravel this design." Quite interesting and enigmatic.
Aug 29 and Sep 5 - Farewell to the Desert. A wonderful collection of more than 20 paintings by Kristen Scholfield-Sweet. She says “…these pieces are from the past four years, all but one completed plein air, while I have been attending a school in New Mexico. They represent a finite body of work that is a perspective of my time in the desert.”
Sep 12 and 19 - One by One. An open group based on a simple idea. There is no theme, nor media. The only limit is that all pieces MUST be exactly 1 x 1 foot, frame included. The pieces may be two or three dimensional, on canvas, board, paper, ceramics. The technique may be acrylic, oil, watercolour, collage, print, photo, textile, whatever you want. All local artists are invited to participate. Please contact norberto at 935-8549 to participate in this show.
Check for ads in the flyers and watch for posters in case of potential additions or changes to the shows.
Looking forward to seeing you all, at the openings, the special events and/or any other day. Come and have a chat with the artists, laugh with your friends, have a glass of vino and a nibble on us…
Thank you all for your continuous support and see you soon !
